| An inmeasurable success
The interest in this surgery lies in the
fact that in many cases, neither exercise nor diet can eliminate
these accumulations of fat…
Every year, in order to obtain a thinner and more harmonious
silhouette, thousands of people rely on this technique…
It is no surprise therefore that liposuction is practiced
in every corner of the world!
Local anaesthesia
The perfection of anaesthetics in the late
1980s made it possible for liposuction to be performed in
specialized clinics. This not only eliminates the risks associated
with general anaesthesia, but also reduces the cost and necessary
recovery period.
The most often targeted areas are:
• Neck
• Arms
• Abdomen
• Sides of the torso
• Buttocks
• Upper legs
• Inner thighs
• Knees
• Calves and ankles
The operation, step by step
Premedication
Upon arriving at the clinic, patients receive pre-operative
medication that helps to relax the body and chase away anxieties
or fears. This medication produces a feeling of well-being,
and it is not uncommon for patients to drift off to sleep...
Local anaesthesia
The area to be treated is disinfected, then infiltrated with
a “freezing” mixture using an automatic injector.
Suction
Once the area has been anaesthetized, the suction procedure
can take place without the least pain. Performed with modern
equipment in the hands of skilled practitioners, the suctioning
of fat leaves few surface irregularities. The fact is, although
its primary objective is to improve body shape, liposuction
also enhances the appearance of the skin as well.
Dressing
Following the suction procedure a massage is performed to
remove any excess liquid in the area. The area is then bandaged
and wrapped with a light girdle.
Post-operative period
The following question is often asked:
What happens to the excess skin? The answer is that the elastic
quality of the skin causes it to contract following liposuction.
Just consider how the skin stretches during pregnancy and
then tightens up after giving birth. During the pre-operative
examination, the skin quality of each individual is assessed
in order to predict its contraction behaviour.
The dressing
The dressing is only in place for 24 hours.
N.B.: ‘Sweating’ is perfectly normal during the
first 24 hours.
The girdle
A girdle must be worn one to three weeks, depending on the
case.
Bruising
Bruising may occur in certain cases. It will last from 10
to 14 days.
Work
In general, patients may return to their everyday routine
after 48 hours.
Sports
Refrain from sports and physical exercise for at least 7 days.
Sun
Exposure to the sun is permissible 15 days after surgery.
Discomfort
Very little pain is experienced during the post-operative
period. Where necessary, a simple relaxant should be sufficient
to ward off pain.
Sensitivity
Some patients may discover small areas of hypoesthesia, or
reduced sensitivity, after the operation. This is a temporary
occurrence; this effect will desappear over the following
months.
Results
Except in cases of massive weight gain, the removal of fat
produces everlasting results. Your new silhouette will be
yours for your lifetime. |
