Hair transplants at Dr Prescott's Montreal and Joliette clinics
Dr. Prescott, hair transplant specialist
For over 20 years, Dr. Prescott has been performing hair transplants for men and women in his Joliette and Montreal clinics. The leading cause of hair loss is alopecia, a condition known as male or hormonal pattern baldness. Hair loss is often hereditary. Nowadays, however, men as well as women choose the capillary graft procedure, in full confidence for hair restoration.
Hair transplants
Hair loss happens when susceptible hair follicles or roots are too sensitive to male hormones. Fortunately, not all hair is as sensitive. The back and side (donor areas) of the head are not affected by male hormones and hair never falls. Relocating follicular units from this donor area to the bald spots by way of hair surgery has lasting results.
Act quickly
A hair restoration done in the early stage of hair loss allows concealment of the hair surgery with original hair that lasts. In addition, patients can opt for progressive hair restoration with grafting spread over several years, if necessary.
Hair transplantation surgery
Medical hair restoration can take 3 to 4 hours and involves the following steps:
- Local anaesthesia is done using a "Dermajet" (needleless, automatic injector). This first step is the only one of the entire process that can be slightly uncomfortable. It takes 5 to 10 minutes
- Harvesting consists of removing 2 to 6 narrow strips of hair. These strips are then dissected in smaller pieces called minigrafts.
- Transplantation of follicular units relocates grafts into minuscule incisions or holes made in recipient areas. The procedure may include 2 500 to 3 000 hair per session.
- Return to work is possible the day following the procedure in most cases; however, for the first 10 days following the hair transplantation, it is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise (including team sports).
